As the University of Oregon's assistant ombudsperson and the director of the Student Conflict Resolution Center, Jennifer Hudson works with a campus community of more than 24,000 students and 5,000 faculty and staff. Hudson consults daily with individuals and groups seeking direct assistance with resolution and policy interpretation; navigates campus community complaints; recommends modifications to policy, practice and procedure when necessary; generates anonymous trend tracking reports; and designs and deliver training workshops.
How did you first get interested in or involved in higher education issues?
"It is the humanization of an organization, the zealous advocacy for institutional fairness, and the restorative work with individuals and groups in navigating barriers to education that pulls me toward my work," Hudson said. "I am committed, on both a personal and professional level, to serving as an accessibility point to promote institutional fairness and individual empowerment in higher education."
Why did you apply to be a part of the Forward50? What drew you to this opportunity?
"What I enjoy most about my work as an ombuds is serving as a change agent from the individual to the institutional level," Hudson said. "To be a part of the Forward50 is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a change-making initiative that has the potential to shift the direction of national dialogue around the impact of issues that confront our students in higher education. It has the potential to change the direction of our approach not only within our institutions and with our students, but for all students, both current and aspiring."
